Scope and Objectives: Space for Construction Monitoring

The main objective is to enhance construction progress monitoring by leveraging satellite technology to provide better visibility, reduced costs, and broader coverage. This includes:

  • Progress Monitoring: Tracking project advancement from commencement through completion.
  • Safety Monitoring: Early hazard identification and mitigation on construction sites.
  • Structural Monitoring: Assessment and tracking of infrastructure condition over time.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Automated extraction of insights from digital resources for efficiency, compliance, and accountability.
  • Environmental Reporting: Systematic observation and analysis of environmental conditions to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Logistics and Supply Chain Monitoring: Improved tracking of sourcing, procurement, and delivery processes.
  • Cross-Sector Applications: Considering interactions with nearby infrastructure and ecosystems.

Value of Satellite Technology

Satellite data and technology play a critical role in this initiative, offering extensive coverage, frequent revisit rates, and consistent data quality. Key areas include:

  • Earth Observation: High-resolution optical imagery and radar data for tracking construction activities and environmental monitoring.
  • Satellite Positioning: Enhancing remote sensing solutions with geo-/time-stamped information.
  • Satellite Communications: Supporting data collection in remote regions and enabling IoT-based monitoring.

Application Process

  1. Download Official Documents: Available from the opening date in the ‘Downloads’ section of the ESA webpage.
  2. Submit Activity Pitch Questionnaire: Follow the guidelines and submit through the online form.
  3. Evaluation and Proposal Submission: ESA evaluates pitches, and successful teams are invited to submit an Outline Proposal and then a Full Proposal. A Letter of Authorisation of Funding from the respective National Delegation is required.
